Baker Square is a complex comprised of five historic mill buildings, two of which were converted into 98 condominiums in 1998. Ten years later, a decision was made to open 60 units in two of the remaining buildings. Here’s what Douglas Smith had to say about Nile’s ability to effectively oversee a complex construction project while managing his association.
“Baker Square is unique," says Douglas Smith, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, "because you had to manage both an existing, ongoing association and deal with lots of construction issues with the units that were in development." That complicated process was managed by Ed Mallon, CMCA, Vice President/Senior Portfolio Manager for Niles. “Ed attended regular construction meetings during the conversion process," Smith recalls. "He was aware of all the issues affecting the development and served as a go-between and negotiator. He also raised issues we hadn’t seen or didn’t want to see! We got good service from Niles."

Lakeview Gardens is a nine building, 179 unit complex that dates back to the mid-1960s. Richard Mutrie, Trustee of Lakeview Gardens, revealed that the age of the property “presents problems on its own.” These problems included asbestos, lead paint and making the complex more energy efficient.
"Niles has hired good vendors who have gotten the work done efficiently, quickly and with minimal disruption to the residents," he says. "And the quotes for landscaping and painting have been quite competitive. We’re very happy with them."
